Model comes in two parts; Base and lid

These prefabricated steel pillboxes were a feature of Japanese defenses at Tarawa.

They were double skinned with a layer if sand between the walls and were used as command posts. Some were fitted with up to  two heavy machine guns.

They measured 9 feet at the base and were just over 8 feet tall.
